Product Specification
The DES-3624I is the key component of an Ethernet stacking system that can support up to 94 Fast Ethernet ports. To meet the demands of a growing network, switching solutions must be easily expandable in incremental steps. Start with 22 10/100BaseTX ports, 2 of which are modular and can be swapped for 100BaseFX. Beyond the internal expansion ports, the DES-3624I can be linked with up to three DES-3624 (slave units) by using the three-port Stack Matrix Module (SMM) DES-363S to build a single switch with up to 94 10/100 ports, all managed by a single IP. In addition the DES-3624I has a single or dual GigE uplink option for the stack.
Flexibility
The DES-3624I unit offers 22 ports of 10/100TX. In the front of the device 2 of the 100BaseTX ports are on a mini expansion slot which can support any one of the following swappable modules:
- Swappable modules
- DES-362FM - 2 port 100BaseFX (MT-RJ)
- DES-361FX - 1 port 100BaseFX (SC)
- 12,000 MAC addresses: By supporting up to 12K MAC addresses, the DES-3624I switch has the flexibility of being used to connect end users directly, or as a switch between shared media devices (e.g. hubs).
- Auto-negotiating: Automatically detects and sets the speed for any 10Base-T or 100Base-TX port, duplex mode full or half, and IEEE 802.3x flow-control.
Standards-Based Software
The DES-3624I/3624 supports a broad range of the latest IEEE Ethernet standards offering the highest levels of functionality and easy interoperability with other vendors' equipment.
- The DES-3624I/3624 supports a broad range of the latest IEEE Ethernet standards offering the highest levels of functionality and easy interoperability with other vendors' equipment.
- Quality of Service (802.1p): Allows the switch to prioritize specific traffic flows over others.
- VLAN Identification (802.1Q): Allows the switch to direct traffic based on non-proprietary virtual local area networks (VLANs).
- Spanning Tree (802.1d): Standards-based link redundancy protocol that allows redundant links to be established to backup primary link while preventing network loops.
- Flow Control (802.3x): Helps monitor and regulate inbound switch traffic to ensure that traffic levels can be handled by the switch.
- IP multicast (IGMP): IP multicast traffic standard.
High Performance
The DES-3624I/3624 are wire-speed, non-blocking Ethernet switches. They also have the following features to enhance network performance:
- Link aggregation for higher switch-to-switch throughput and link-level redundancy, including support for Cisco Fast EtherChannel. Link aggregation is supported on both Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet ports.(These switches will have support for IEEE802.3ad when standardized)
- Gigabit Ethernet: The DES-3624I supports single-port versions the 1000BaseSX expansion modules. A dual-port 1000BaseSX module is also available.
Manageability
- Web management: Allows you to configure the switch from any PC on the network with a Web browser.
- SNMP management: Industry standard enterprise network management support.
- Mini-RMON (groups 1,2,3,9): Provides advanced monitoring capabilities.
- Port mirroring: Allows the network administrator to monitor traffic on one port using another switched port attached to a network analyzer.
