The D-Link DFW-500 is a 3-port IEEE 1394 PCI controller that supports
up to 400 Mbps throughput. The DFW-500 is targeted at users that
have no integrated IEEE 1394 support who wish to connect Digital Video
Cameras and other IEEE 1394 devices to their PCs. It is bundled
with Digital Video editing software to provide an out of the box solution
for home video editing.
The DFW-500 provides three 6-pin downstream ports for connecting IEEE
1394 peripherals and hubs. Configured directly by the operating
system, the DFW-500 operates in accordance with the IEEE 1394-1995 specification
and is compatible with 1394A. Its 32-bit PCI architecture is compliant
with PCI version 2.2.
As a standard IEEE 1394 host controller, it bus bridges between IEEE
1394 and PCI. The DFW-500 operates as the root device and provides
bus master capability. It will accept IEEE 1394 data from any
attached peripherals, hubs, or other devices in compliance with IEEE Specification
1394-1995. The DFW-500 supports device speeds at 100Mbps, 200 Mbps,
and 400 Mbps.
The DFW-500 provides power to any attached IEEE 1394
peripheral, device or hub. This function allows bus-powered devices
to operate without the need of an external power adapter. The DFW-500 is
packaged with a manual, a 6-pin to 4-pin IEEE 1394 cable, and Digital Video
Editing software.
