The D-Link DHN-920 is an HomePNA 2.0 compliant 10Mb Home Phoneline Network in a Box specifically designed to create a home network that capitalizes on in wall phoneline wiring and the capabilities of USB. Each of its two included DHN-120 USB HomePNA 2.0 compliant phoneline network adapters use an available USB port on a desktop and/or laptop PC running Microsoft Windows 98 or Windows 2000. It is a complete out of the box solution that represents the simplest way to build a 10Mb HomePNA-compliant network.
The HomePNA2.0 specification outlines a transport method by which sustainable data rates of 10 Megabits per second can be achieved over normal in-home phoneline wiring. Additionally this technology is backwards compatible with HomePNA 1.0 1 Mbps products. The DHN-920 marries this technology to USB to provide the fastest, easiest to set up, and most advanced out-of-the box home networking solution.
The DHN-920 includes 2 DHN-120 USB HomePNA 2.0 compliant network adapters and all the necessary cables, instructions and software to build a home network for two machines. Additional DHN-120?s and DHN-520?s can be added to additional computers via USB and PCI respectively to increase the size of the user?s home network
Each DHN-120 has three ports. The USB type B port allows the unit to be located up to 15 feet away from a USB hub or USB enabled computer. It is easily installed without requiring the user to open their computer case. The two RJ-11?s can be used to connect to the home phoneline, directly to another HomePNA 1.0 or 2.0 compliant device, or may be used as a pass through for a telephone or modem.
Power for each DHN-120 is provided directly by the USB bus, negating the need for an external power adapter. It can be plugged into any USB host or hub port that provides 500mA of current as defined in the USB specifications 1.0 and 1.1 as a high-powered USB device. Each DHN-120 supports USB?s energy saving suspend and resume functions to minimize power consumption.
Diagnostic LEDs are mounted on the top of each DHN-120 to provide the user with power state and current Link and Traffic status for the LAN connection. The DHN-920 comes complete with all necessary manuals, two USB ?A? to ?B? cables, 2 phone line cables, a driver CD, and an Internet Sharing software CD. D-Link?s HomePNA 2.0 network in a box ensures that the user is able to easily and quickly install their home network to play multiplayer games, share Internet access, share hard drives, CD-ROM, and DVD drives directly out of the box.
